April 13, 2001, Newsletter Issue #24: Victorian/Celtic Star

Tip of the Week

I call this the Victorian/Celtic Star, because I found it in an Victorian Book, but it resembles the way in which Celtic circles interlace with each other.

Although I label the different Rounds with a new number, The Loops ARE ALL ANCHORED TO ROUND #1- THE SOLID SC ROUND.

With a small portion of yarn, no bigger than a golf ball, Ch 6 and connect to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch1. 16 Sc into ring, connect to 1st Sc.
Round 2: *Ch 15, Sk 3 sts, Sc in next st. Repeat from * 3 more times for a total of 4 Loops. Connect to bottom st of first loop.
Round 3: Pull the 1st loop forward & 3 sl st in behind the anchor of the loop. This should put you in the Center SC between the anchors of the 1st loop.
*From the back of the piece, Ch 15.
Push yarn ball and Hook through the center of the next loop. Pull Loop #2 forward, Sk 4 sts from previous anchor, and Sc to anchor the current Ch15 Loop. (This anchor should be centered between the anchors of Loop Number 2).
Repeat from * 3 more times. Total of 4 loops this round, 8 loops for whole piece.
Connect last loop to base of first loop of Round 3. End off and weave thread.
Round 4: Connect contrasting yarn to top of any loop. Work 7 sts into loop (Sc, Hdc, or Dc). Repeat for each loop. Connect to beginning st of this round; end off and weave threads.

I know this sounds really complicated, and as soon as lifetips.com has the capabilities, I will get a picture of this up. The end result is a stunning beginning for a doily or the center of a Granny square.
