May 11, 2001, Newsletter Issue #28: A Twist on the Old Favorite

Tip of the Week

This week, I offer a variation on the Simple Mile A Minute Strip.
Complete the inner portion of the strip as you normally would.
Work one round of HDC in a contrasting color around the outer edge of the strip.
After working round of Hdc, add another round using Front Crossed HDC in a third color. Work the Crossed Sts down the sides, and use simple SC sts into all of the sts of the ‘shell st’ on each end. You will need to add 2-4 extra SC’s into the very end to prevent curling.
Since this pattern is more `closed` it would make a warm shawl. 6-8 Strips is what I suggest for a standard shawl. Tassels or fringe work well in the ends.
